The St. Maarten Laboratory Services NV (SLS) is an ambitious and rapidly developing organization in St. Maarten. SLS provides 24 hours diagnostic services to the patients and clients of the local general hospital, ambulatory patients and the public health department. Our mission is to provide excellent diagnostic quality and service to our clients.

The purpose of this position is to complete the enthusiastic and dedicated team of the Environmental Department. The tasks will include all common microbiological water and food testing. The workflow is embedded in an up-to-date laboratory information system.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic microbiological tests for water and food
• Provide coverage of services within a small team seven days a week
• Perform calibrations and first tier maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Perform quality control and proficiency testing
• Writing and updating quality reports and analytical procedures
• Performing troubleshooting and improvement cycles
• Take action and escalate proactively on detected issues

Required skills

• A degree in Microbiological Laboratory work at the level of Dutch HLO (Hoger Laboratorium Onderwijs)
• Communicates skillfully with internal (and external) parties
• Performs duties with a sense of responsibility for clients
• Knowledge of and experience with all microbiological laboratory techniques and hygiene and safety requirements
• Preferably minimum three years of experience in an Environmental laboratory
• Knowledge of and experience with ISO 17025 quality systems
• Knowledge of and experience with laboratory information systems
• Good command of the Dutch and English language
